Don’t Trust Mature, Healthy Foliage to a Faulty Irrigation System

An old, faulty irrigation system can damage or destroy the trees, plants, and bushes you’ve worked so hard to mature and grow!  If your foliage doesn’t get enough water, it will start to brown, then wilt, and if allowed to continue in this condition, can be ultimately lost.  Replacement foliage is expensive and takes years and years to grow!

The 3 Critical Components of Your Irrigation System

The Control System

It's always best to get a system with lots of programming options and zones. You want full control to customize your irrigation plan to accommodate different plants needs for diferent times of the year.

The Irrigation Piping

Years ago, it was common to use flexible 1" rubber tubes. Now it's standard practice to use PVC pipes. PVC pipes are much more durable and are proven to last longer and leak less. Be certain your installer is using PVC on your system, not old rubber.

Drip & Sprinkler Heads

The best sprinkler head for watering a lawn is most often times a rotary head. They are able to run at a lower PSI, causing less wear and tear, but are still able to water a large area.

In Arizona, a grass lawn should be given a deep watering once every 3 days, regardless of the season.  Your other plants can need varying amounts of water, and you should research how to care for each type of plant.

If you have a smart controller, you will be able to adjust the amount of water for seasons and different weather.  Be certain to look into the specific needs of your plants before you program a schedule for them.  You can also temporarily shut off your system during the heavy rains in monsoon season.

You can fix leaks yourself as long as you have the know-how, and some tubing or an extra sprinkler head.  If the problem requires some digging and involves a large leak, or you’re not how to securely connect everything, give us a call and we can save you the time and hassle.

Rotary heads are generally the best types of heads for lawns because they run at a lower PSI, but still cover a large area.

In general, we recommend checking your lawn and plants once a month while the system is running and right after to see if there are any leaks, or malfunctioning heads.
